Friday Random Ten: the Gary Gygax RIP edition
As I’m sure many of you know already, Gary Gygax, inventor of Dungeons and Dragons, died this week. Robert Farley, of Lawyers, Guns, and Money, has a round up of responses to his death. In honor of Gary Gygax, my first Youtube video this Friday is “Dungeons and Dragons: Satan’s Game.”
And, for my second Youtube video, Janis Ian sings Married in London (via Feminist Law Professors, funny).

Kathleen Bergin of Feminist Law Professors reports that the Texas caucuses were really disorganized.

Movie of the week: We watched the documentary Unknown White Male, about a man who finds himself in the middle of New York City with total amnesia, no identification, and only one clue to his identity, and what happens as he gradually finds out who he is. Joel thought it dragged a bit toward the end. Part that I found interesting: the different kinds of memory and memory loss, and how that was reflected in his amnesia. He lost essentially all his episodic memory (memories of things he’d done in the past, even very basic things like the fact that he had two sisters and the fact that his mother was dead), and some of his semantic memory (general knowledge we all share – he didn’t remember what 10 Downing Street was, even though he’d lived in London for years), but he could sign the name he didn’t remember; procedural memory is stored differently from episodic memory. And some skills that he had forgotten (photography), he could recover more quickly than if he’d been learning them for the first time.
And now, the ten random iTunes. #2 seems particularly appropriate to the occasion of Gygax’ death.
