#Politics was started with the intention of forming a channel for high-level debate in a location where people could feel comfortable. Many people have worked hard to get this channel going with the same purpose in mind. We discuss a wide variety of politically oriented topics 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please don't hesitate to jump into any discussion or introduce a new discussion. The channel topic line that you see in your IRC client may or may not reflect what is currently being discussed, but rather serves to inspire interesting discussion.

We encourage everyone to participate in channel discussions and feel free to talk about any issues you wish to discuss, but keep our rules in mind.

The following rules are set out as a guideline for the behavior of channel participants. This channel is dedicated to intelligent, mature and civil discussions of political and politically related issues throughout the world. Behavior, whether specified in the rules or not, that runs counter to this purpose is unwelcome and will be subject to disciplinary action.

1. No name calling, ad hominems, personal attacks, verbal harassment or overly aggressive behavior against other channel participants. Such behavior is disruptive, and we cannot maintain the proper atmosphere for debate on #Politics.

2. No threats of violence against anyone.

3. The use of epithets or excessively pejorative language targeting a race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, etc. is prohibited; in our opinion, this only brings down the level of debate.

4. Excessive and/or gratuitous crudeness and profanity are not allowed; strong emotions and heated discussions happen and are part of discussing things people care strongly about - but that is no excuse for abusive language, harassing other users, or using obscene language just for shock value.

5. No posting to the channel in all caps. This is considered "shouting" and tends to disrupt chat.

6. We do allow moderate use of color, boldface, underlines, and popups in channel. Please don't overdo it, however. Overuse of colors, boldface, etc. is just another form of disruptive "shouting" and will not be tolerated.

7. No flooding the channel. Flooding is the scrolling of meaningless text in a channel in an attempt to disrupt.

8. Pasting text to the channel - for example, from a webpage - should be limited to 3 posts in a ten-minute period. Any pasting in excess of this limit is considered flooding.

9.. Excessive sloganeering is prohibited. The purpose of the channel is political debate, not cheerleading or chanting of slogans.

10. No hacking. Anyone hacking or attempting to hack our channel will be permanently placed on ban from this channel and reported to the proper authorities.

11. You are encouraged to welcome new members to our channel and refer them to this web page.

People who cannot follow our simple rules will be warned and then kicked or kicked and banned. Again, this is up to the discretion of our ops. Do not question or argue with ops' decisions or you will be given a "time-out" from our channel. We do not wish to discuss rules or channel policy in channel.

You can e-mail monchie for questions, comments or suggestions regarding these rules.
